In this module, we set up Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS on an old Intel machine (i5 Intel + 8GB RAM) to create a stable base for Moodle. The goal is to build something practical: a server you can manage and later use to host learning content.

After installation, a best practice is to update the system right away because updates include security patches, bug fixes, and performance improvements.

By the end of Module 1, the server is installed, updated, and ready for the next step: installing the web stack and Moodle.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of Module 1, you should be able to:

  • install Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS
  • enable SSH for remote access
  • update and upgrade the system after install
  • prepare the server for the next step (web stack + Moodle)
